Guisborough is known as a gateway to the Moors National Park and forms part of the route for the famous Cleveland Way. It is home to some wonderful 12th century Priory remains, and clearly shows the area's strong monastic past. For more than 600 years it has been a traditional market town, with stalls lining the cobbled sides and Georgian buildings on the high street every Thursday and Saturday. And if anyone explores the surrounding villages on the steps of the North York Moors then one picturesque village, Newton-under-Roseberry, lies at the foot of Roseberry Topping - a distinct and instantly recognisable local landmark which reaches 1,057ft. From here it is possible to see the whole of Teesside. The much-hailed ironstone mining heritage of Guisborough can also be easily explored by visiting nearby Skelton, Brotton and Loftus.
